Starting Tues August 17 from 4-530 there will be a takedown class being offered at the school. I know this is early, however it is being placed in that slot so that local wrestlers can practice and so that it does not interfere with those who are practicing regularly on Tues/Thurs nights. This will be semi-temporary for the time being and its future will depend on who is interested and whether or not it works out. Everyone from the school is more than welcome to attend. I will be there early to open the school. This will be a structured class where different teachers may be present on some days. This will be an opportunity to learn from some different former and present wrestlers and to build onto one particular part of your overall jiu jitsu game. The focus of the class will be takedown technique and drilling of the days curriculum. Let me know if anyone interested or has any questions.

Man, can we get Fight to Win singlets?? I could definitely be down for this. I think I'll be traveling next Tuesday so I'm not sure how consistent I can train (no real surprise there) but I'd be interested.

Tony, note the Two-ply tummy panel...they're typically hard to find. Toss in a cotton crotch and I'm sold.

I always seem to check the forum first thing in the morning and nearly always choke on my coffee from laughing. First it was the thread about Alan's finger, now this. If we keep this up we're going to end up on Tosh.0 ...

And I'm digging the black singlet btw; it makes my hips look narrow.

Sorry about your thread Casey ...

C'mon Gil, as if you've never worn a pair of Spanx.

Sorry Casey...

girlfriend's car has been in the shop the last 2 1/2 weeks, so she's got mine or I'm stuck playing taxi thru tomorrow, but I should be
be back w/ transportation in time for the 1st one of these sessions.

Definitely like the idea of working takedowns, all for it, but the time of day is going to be tough for most I would assume. Is incorporating this into a more typical Tues. eve. schedule possible so that more guys might be on board?

I would like to take the class. I could be Rob's partner but I couldn't always make it. I prefer just to wear the Marco Ruas wrestling speedo my self. It gives room for more mobility and increases the effectiveness of the takedown since your opponent or training partner will immediately back pedal.

Wait, so we have to wear that uniform to participate??

I'd like to be able to make it, but I'm with BWard about making it later as leaving work before 6 on Tues/Thurs isn't a reality for me. Hopefully some of the guys who make will be able to stick around a little later and pass along some info?

Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, but not exactly what I would want to shoot in on either. If you are going to rock this, you HAVE to strike this pose while your out on the mat waiting for someone to pick you as their partner. LMAO!

Thanks guys. Way to represent the school! It was a good turnout and an even greater workout. Hopefully in the future we can maybe work this class out to a different time slot. But that depends on interest and participation. The crowd today was good. I cant wait to train more.

Good time today! Big thanks to Casey for putting it together, to Mr. Workman for teaching, and of course to Steve for encouraging these kinds of sessions, even when he has other obligations, very cool.

I will be there every time that I can for these, excited about learning the fundamentals of the wrestling game as I should have learned in high school and to developing a new approach from the feet.

Thanks, see y'all Thursday and tomorrow for BJJ!

Thanks to everyone who came to the first week. I know its a hard time slot for a lot of people. Hopefully in the future if there is a demand maybe we can convert this to maybe the first hour or so on tues/thurs nights. However my main concern is not to take away from those who are content with the open mat that already exist. I dont wanna step on anybody's toes when it comes to possibly structuring a class in the future. Maybe for starters once the 4:00 class is over in a month we might transition to a once a week and see if people like that.

I will be keeping a record of topics and techniques covered in class so if anyone has questions or wants to catch up i will be glad to copy some of my study material and help those who could not make it.

Topics this week included:
Proper stance
Dynamic hand movement/placement
head control
proper shot/drop shot
penetration step
controlling tempo
"closing the distance"
High crotch-double
low single
sprawl

hate I missed it this afternoon, been sick as a dog since I left the school last Thurs. night, think it was coming on all that day as I started working out at home at 3pm, felt off all day, should have listened to my body, didn't leave FTW until after 9...

I blame the people of Wal-Mart, back to school crowds at Super MegaloMart are dirty business. See y'all when I'm out of quarantine
